Former New York Philharmonic principal flutist Jeanne Baxtresser performs chamber music for flute with Pedja Muzijevic and Israela Margalit and colleagues from the Philharmonic.
The six compositions recorded here are by five composers, English, American and French, writing for five different instrumental combinations ranging from two to five players. All but one of the composers wrote in the twentieth century, the exception being Devienne, who represents the elegance and refinement of late eighteenth century France. That tradition extends to Philippe Gaubert, a lesser-known contemporary of Debussy and Ravel. Ms Baxtresser performs rare works by Gaubert and Madeline Dring, as well as staples of the chamber literature for flute, such as the Copland Duo and Barber's Summer Music.
Additional performances by Ms Baxtresser available on Cala's New York Legends CACD0512
