Miriam Hyde AO, OBE (1913-2005), was one of the foremost Australian composers of the twentieth century, known for her appealing, nature-inspired post-romantic style and exquisite craftsmanship. Ms Hyde found the medium of flute and piano particularly inspiring, and Dancing Shadows contains her complete works for the combination.
Miriam Hyde was also a recognised poet, and the album concludes with a selection of her poetry read by the renowned Australian actor Gerard Maguire. A PDF file of the poems is available for download by clicking here.
Bridget Bolliger appears as a solo, chamber and orchestral musician throughout Europe and Australia, and has garnered such reviews as “Interpretative grace and delicious virtuosity” (Rivista di Lugano), “Her playing is rich with light and colour, warmth and fresh originality” (Corriere del Ticino).
Andrew West is a leading U.K. soloist and associate artist.

"Dancing Shadows contains some frankly ravishing music, delicate and finely wrought, continually pulling free of its descriptive moorings to be carried off by darker undercurrents. One couldn’t hope for better advocates for this music than flautist Bridget Bolliger and pianist Andrew West."
William Yeoman, Gramophone
"This release introduces the exciting partnership of Australian–Swiss flautist Bridget Bolliger and British pianist Andrew West. They bring Ms Hyde’s delightful music to the attention of listeners and flute players alike. From the very first notes you will be blown away, both by Bolliger’s glorious sound and West’s expert handling of the accompaniment."
Kate Rockstrom, readings.com.au
"Flautist Bridget Bolliger has all the ingredients necessary, tonally, technically and expressively, to convey the music’s attractive mood setting and Andrew West lives up to his reputation as an outstandingly sympathetic accompanist and colleague. Attractively recorded and annotated, too."
Jonathan Woolf, Musicweb International
