A demonstration of the incredible array of exotic sounds as found in traditional Chinese music, performed by the world's greatest pipa player Min Xiao Fen. Performing both on the pipa - the plucked lute - and its relative the ruan, a vivid soundscape is evoked through rich musical themes, steeped in folklore and history. With magnificent flurries of strummed chords and an intricate development of melodies delivered with a furious energy, Ms Min delivers a performance whose influences are drawn deep from China's past.
