"Any performance which causes one to reassess one’s views of a work or modifies one’s response to it is worthy of commendation and attention. Stokowski’s...is such a performance." www.classicalsource.com

"Not only does Stokowski give the more fervent, dramatic reading...the playing of his hand-picked band has greater conviction, composture and sheen..." Gramophone

"...nothing will mediate between the listener and grateful appreciation of this memorable concert, memorably conveyed to us here." www.musicweb.uk.net

Stokowski and Vaughan Williams were at one point fellow students at the Royal College of Music, neither imagining that one would write nine symphonies and the other conduct six of them. Stokowski's lifelong championship of emerging American composers is demonstrated by the works of Riegger, Hovhaness and Creston. These are live recordings from a 1958 Carnegie Hall concert.
