"This recording is, quite frankly the greatest Scheherazade ever recorded by anyone ever." Classical Net Review
"And it has never been done better—never been done as well—as in this recording." www.musicweb.uk.net
"...one remains amazed by the sound of the Phase 4 recording in all its flamboyance and glamour... the trumpetsí blistering glare is enough to strip the wallpaper at 20 yards." www.musicweb.uk.net
"This Rimsky-Korsakov masterpiece is a favourite - I have several versions, my previous best was Ernest Ansermet's. Stokowski's conducting inspired the musicians a lot and Walthamstow Town Hall is an all-time favourite recording venue of mine. I'm looking forward to acquiring more on Cala."Albert Scantleberry
The 82-year-old Stokowski's first Phase 4 recording was hailed by the critics for its vivid sonics, and for Stokowski's understanding of Rimsky-Korsakov's highly coloured score. Engineer Tony D'Amato kept the tapes running during rehearsals and preserved the tracks which demonstrate Stokowski's rehearsal technique.
