Music from the Courts of Europe

Versailles

The Raglan Baroque Players

Code: CACD88009

$12.99

A unique collection of French baroque music, by some of the foremost and most popular composers of the era.

Versailles began life as a small hunting lodge, built for Louis XIII in 1624 in the centre of the forest, where music and the new plays of Molière were performed. Needless to say the artists and musicians made all haste to the forest to offer their services to a monarch whose purse seemed ever open to those favoured by the King. Among the best known of these court composers were Lully, Charpentier and Leclair. Couperin was appointed to the court of Louis XIV at the early age of 25 and this CD features a very rare recording recording of Rameau's Platée suite.
